What does Christmas means to me

Christmas falls on 24th December every year. Every year we celebrate it by giving gifts. Some of us just celebrate it as a holiday. Now, what does Christmas really means to us?

To some Christmas means Santa Clause and gifts.

To some its time to receive gifts, some time to spend on gifts, to some is both.

To some is to remember Jesus.

Which one of these do you belong to?

Let me provide some history and general facts to it.

1) Santa Clause, does he even exist?
Yes, he does. His real name is Saint Nicolas. This is in history books. Does he exist today? The Santa Clause in our fantasy, the white bread man with some red sleeping cap dressed in red that comes down via the chimney and give gifts...no. Saint Nicholas was renamed Santa Clause for some reason but he is definitely not the reason Christmas is celebrated. For more info, go and look up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Claus

2) Jesus and gifts
I rather subscribe to this because Jesus is the reason to why we celebrate Christmas. In fact Christmas doesn't fall on 24th December. If it is on 24th December, how can those shepherd and shepherd be out in the open during winter? Its cold out there even in the middle east especially at night. An early reference to the date of the nativity as December 25 is found in the Chronography of 354, an illuminated manuscript compiled in Rome in 354. (Wikipedia 2009 taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas#Feast_established). Jesus in fact is the reason. He is the reason why we celebrate Christmas. We give gifts because we remember God, our heavenly Father gives us his best gift - the salvation of all mankind, Jesus. That's why we give the best gifts to people. My opinion on why we receive gifts is as a sign we need Jesus and therefore we accept the gift of God.

As for me Christmas is to remember God's sacrifice - Jesus for us. We need Him and because of Him we are redeemed. During Christmas, its not about gifts but rather a remembrance of who God is, a generous Giver who has given us His best and we receive this gift (something given freely). Why gifts? Gifts is something given freely at the expense of the giver. We have to remember that God gave His best. He gave us freely. All we need to do is just to accept.

Why does God want to sacrifice Jesus? Because of sin, we were separated from God, the giver of true life. We may be alive now but are we experiencing abundance, joy, peace and love? Are we sure of where we are going to be after we leave this mortal body of ours? God wants to have a relationship with us. The consequences of sin is death. Something has to die to pay off the consequences of sin. So God gave Jesus, the sinless sacrifice for us to restore us back to God. God will provide us a place in heaven where we will be with Him if we accept Jesus's sacrifice for us.

As for us what should Christmas be? It should be Jesus, God's greatest gift. All we need to do is to accept Him as our personal Savior. Just pray this prayer and believe in your heart that Jesus is your Savior and you will be saved from sin and separation from the Giver of life.
"Lord Jesus, I acknowledge I've fallen short of Your glory due to sin. I need you to save me from my sins that separates me from God so that I can have a personal relationship with God. In Jesus name. Amen." (Amen means I agree)

Something nice to say about KDU Campus Revo team

As I was having meeting with the campus revolution group for KDU today, I thought about them, each 1 of them. Our team may be small, but nevertheless, we are getting effective as time pass. Well these are my compliments about each of them.

Darren is currently leading this group. He has been a great encouragement to all of us. Encouraging us to stay close to God. In fact he was the one who introduced me to this Campus Revolution. I would liken him to Ananias in Acts 9. You may not be famous as Ananias is only mentioned in Acts 9 but your accomplishment for God is great. Sometimes, things can only be done when there are people who are aware of the situation, have compassion and are courageous to do something. If it wasn't for him, I think Campus Revolution KDU and SMK Raja Perempuan, Perak's Recess Revolution wouldn't have materialized. This is what I will describe as the courage to respond and do something that God has placed in his heart and not give up when discouragement steps in. Darren, if you are reading this, I hope you will be encouraged and go on doing what God has placed in your heart. If it wasn't for Ananias, there may not be Paul as it was Ananias who shared Christ to Saul who later became Paul.

Daniel Khoo. You're the worship person. You have been one who can encourage your brethren to worship the true God as your availability coupled with your skills has brought God glory. You have shown me that its not the skills that count but its rather your availability. I remember what you've said to me before "I am here only for a short time so I want to do whatever I can do in this short time." I pray that you will continue to yield yourself to God as you can accomplish far more than what you are doing now because when you avail yourself to God, God will unfold his master plans to you.

Belle, you are a sweet lady in the group. You will go out to see to it things are done successfully. Its not what you can do but its your faithfulness in executing things delegated to you that encourages the team. Yeah, God looks for faithful people. As you are faithful in little things, God will give you more and greater things because you are trustworthy. Remember, be faithful in little things and God will give you greater things. You may think that these things you are doing now is nothing much but in fact God is testing you. These may be small but your impact is great. Hope you will be encouraged by this. Luk 16:10 (NKJV) He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.

Kai Wen, the person that I don't talk much to. Energetic and outgoing. Can be seen in your involvement in the ticket sales and Change your world promotion. Your energy spent tells us 1 thing. If we do something, we must give our best. Yeah, not only that you are also the person that cheer up the group. You are liken to Barnabas of today. One who encourages everyone in the things that is going on. You cheer us up. You are important to the group because people need encouragement to move on. To encourage is En - to add, courage is the drive that cause a person to dare to do things. So you are basically one who adds courage to us. Its important to have you around. You reminds me of Philippians 4:4.

Ben Teoh, one special team member. Conforms to the principals and motto of Recess / Campus Revolution - Stand up, speak up and show up. When there are things not right, you will say out, maybe indirectly. You speak up at times and encourage us. Surprisingly although you are busy, you show up at unexpected times. You are the one whom we may not see doing things, like someone who does things behind the scene. You may not realize it at times. You're somewhat different because most of the things you do are indirect. Why are you so important to the team then? Like the movie, we may have all the cast but if there is no support cast, the show won't look nice. Its indirect but its important.

Steph Lee, quiet but gifted sweet young lady. Although she don't associate with me often, she brings great encouragement to the team. She also does things indirectly. But when she helps and participate, we can sense Nehemiah 8:10 in her - "The joy of the Lord is our strength". Stephanie is a sweet lady that smiles a lot and that's th evidence of her portraying Nehemiah 8:10.

As for myself, Pro 27:2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; let it be a stranger, and not your own lips. So I have nothing to say about myself.

In conclusion, this team, group or whatever you want to call it, I will call it a team because we have a common objective - to change our campus. We thank God for the ones who start it and the ones who participate. Everyone is important. The ones who start is important because if nobody starts, there won't be anything. If no one participate then how is the movement going to move? The ones we are going to impact is also very important because that is why the movement started. I thank God for the CF, the group that we function under else we can't function at all. Thank God for everyone in this team, this Revolution team, which will definitely impact KDU.

Change Your World aftermath

It’s been 2 weeks since Change Your World concert. 1 accord ministry rocked Dewan Sri Pinang. There have been many challenges posted. These challenges to me are good in a way to fired us up for our community. I mean, our community is made up of people like us. There are good people and there are also bad people. There are people who are blessed and people who are less fortunate. The Change Your world concert is not just a hoo ha kind of concert where you come to just have fun and forget about it after the event. My non believer friend, Andrew Ong commented that although he had fun and enjoyed the event, he also learned something during the event. A week later, we had this I love Penang project which I didn’t manage to go because I had classes. It was a good community project but I believe that it mustn’t just end with that project as change your world is more than just a community project. What is important is not more projects for the community but rather a change of heart and attitude towards the particular situation. I’ve learned in management classes as I am a management student that attitude is the way we view things around us. If we have had more compassion, more awareness and more courage, I believe that one day, we will not only be history makers and world changers but our society will become a near perfect society. What makes our society bad today? Is it the bad people or the good ones doing nothing? Looking at the scenario in USA where a girl was gang raped but more than 12 people stood nearby doing nothing. If they would have intervened, that poor girl wouldn’t have been raped. Sometimes it’s because we fear for ourselves. For example, snatch thieves. People are afraid to help because they fear they would get attacked or stab. If someone intervened and brought the thief to justice, then there would be lesser crimes as this criminal is stopped from committing more crimes. Sometimes we blamed the government and the corrupted policeman. Have we ever thought of the sacrifices they’ve made? Not all policemen are corrupted. Some are fighting for a clean police force. I myself played mobster 2 in Facebook. I find that crimes happened when good people does nothing to stop it. Example: the mission on holding a gun store in Miami. The chances of failure is about 50% and when it does fails it says that even the people in the shop assisted the owner. Dr. Kou my lecturer said that we are to kill the problem with workable solution that it won’t arise again. The problems in our community can only be solved by ourselves if we choose to do something. That something could be helping out the poor. Rev. Bill and his metro ministry has helped changed the lives of people in Brokenly, New York simply but helping them. They have in fact helped changed the lives of several street children to become church workers instead of becoming whistle blowers for drug mules. Can our society’s problem be solved? Yes. If we help the poor and help provide them with education, these people will become good income earner and this will pull their generation out of poverty. If we help drug addicts and harlots with rehab programs, they will stop their profession and addictions and live normal and acceptable lives. If we help ex-convicts to blend back into the society, they will stop doing crimes as they did before. If we help our policeman by providing them information and help then criminals will be arrested and crimes will be reduced. If we elect good, responsible, honest and trustworthy people into the government, there will be lesser corruption and there will be justice. It all ends up with, “What are you going to do with your life”, the theme for the Quest 1 of Change Your World.

Evengelism to Muslim

Evangelize to Muslims...taken from
http://www.facebook.com/gansherlyn?v=info#/topic.php?uid=318457950205&topic=11602

More than 200 American Christians attended a conference in Indianapolis this past weekend to learn how to reach out to Muslims in North America.

Speakers at the Oasis Conference, hosted by Muslim outreach ministry Crescent Project, included two former Muslims and a pastor who was born and raised in the Middle East.

Attendees heard answers on questions such as: How can we reach out in love to our Muslim neighbors? How can we clearly present the gospel to Muslims without offending them? How can my congregation reach out to the Muslim community down the street? How can my student group reach out to Muslims on my campus?

As part of their effort to gain perspective on the lives of American Muslims, some Oasis attendees visited a mosque and witnessed a Friday prayer service.

Fouad Masri, Crescent Project founder and president, said the event was designed to mobilize, equip and encourage U.S. Christians to reach out to Muslims. He highlighted that there are only about two missionaries for every million Muslims in the world, "which means each one has to reach 500,000,” highlighted Masri, who was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon, according to Mission Network News.

Masri said most Christians are afraid or don’t know where to begin to reach Muslims. But based on his long-time experience working with the growing population, he asserted that most Muslims want to know about Jesus and the Bible.

“Muslims are taking Bibles. Muslims talk about Jesus. We’ve seen people pray to receive Christ,” said the pastor who has been ministering to Muslims since 1979. “There’s such a hunger that we’ve never seen before because Islam has failed to answer the deepest questions.”

These deep questions include: Does God love me? Can I be sure my sins are forgiven? Can I be sure of eternal life?

“Our job is not to make the Muslim a Christian,” Fouad often reminds his audience, according to the ministry’s Web site. “Our job is to show them the love of Christ.”

Masri insists that Muslims are not “hard” to share the Gospel with. The issue rather is that they haven’t heard the Gospel, according to MNN.

The third-generation pastor is said to have trained nearly 11,000 North American Christians to “sensitively” and “purposefully” share their faith with Muslims.

Workshops at this year’s Oasis conference included: A Crash Course on Islam, A Muslims’ Mind: What Every Christian Needs to Know about the Islamic Tradition; The History of the Qur’an; Understanding the Daughters of Ishmael; Reaching the Muslim Next Door; Remaining Faithful When Little Fruit is Evident; and The Campus: A Strategic and Non-Threatening Platform for Sharing Jesus with Muslims.

In total, more than 20 workshops in the categories of understanding Islam, ministry skills, mobilization, and apologetics were offered during the three-day Oasis conference.

End of article

So as for me, I think although evangelism to Muslim is strictly illegal, there are many loopholes that we can exploit. Just as mentioned in the article above, they need to hear cause:
1) They deserve
2) It's our responsibility as per Matthew 28:19-20

So, how can we do that since it's "illegal" to share Christ to them? We should exploit the available loop holes in the constitution. There are 2 ways to break a law: breaking it literally or by exploiting the loopholes, known as legal methods of breaking it. Here are some suggestions:

1) Ask them for permission to meet their needs especially through prayer. This is one of the best ways for them to experience God's love. Should there be miracle that happened and they know it, they will be open to hear the gospel.
Here is a true testimony from Ipoh city: A Chinese Muslim and a Malay Muslim had a son whom they find difficult to train. They brought this kid to a Christian kindergarten because his sister had previously been sent to this kindergarten and her studies improved. Well the owner of this premise said, we are going to train him using Christian methods. They agreed seing that all methods have failed so why don't give Jesus a chance to change him and his rebellious behavious. The boy's behaviour changed within a few months. Later, after 1 year and several months later this kid was diagnosed with a lump growth which will cost RM60k operation to remove it with no gurantee of sucess. The owner of the premise asked them for permission to pray for the boy. Since its just a simple prayer, so why don't give Jesus a chance? After prayer, the boy went to the specialist to check. The doctor was amazed and certify that the lump is gone! Praise God! During the graduation, the mother testified. This kid went back to his village and share Christ with his family. Hey! God can use this 6 year old kid how about us? This kid's Malay father said to his son, you can believe but I can't (Note: Can't not don't want). This shows that the power of God and the love of God can impact them. Given the chance to have the freedom of choice of religion, I believe this whole family will believe in Jesus. They believe in their heart but they have yet to confess so we are praying for the day to come that this whole family will believe in their heart and confess that Christ is their saviour.

2) Let them ask! Since we can't share openly to them, there is no law statement in Malaysian constitution that we cannot answer question posted by them about our faith. Therefore don't waste the opportunity if God gets them to ask us!

3) Discuss. We can't share openly but we can discuss about our faith. This is a way to evengelize. This actually got an uztaz saved in Malaysia because he finds that the faith that he believe does not offer him what he can find in Christianity. He is now a member of the underground church who is actively engaging his fellow Malays who are Muslim now. Praise God!

Now...how can we do points 2 & 3? We can do so only if we love them. That is how they will open up. Another point to it is to ask God to do miracles such as giving them dreams and work a miracle in their life. Muslims believe in angels and God can send angels to minister to them as in a case that happened to an underground church member in north Perak state where both miracle and the angel of God appearing to this family cause them to want to know Jesus and thank God for Christians who fear not that shared to them.

God bless. These are ways we can win Malaysia for Christ. The gospel was never limited to Chinese, Indians, expraitrates, native Malaysians or the mix races. It was also meant for the Malay and Muslims who are one of the least reached groups. 1 Malaysia. 1 King and Lord - Jesus Christ. Let's bring them to give their allegience to the right King and Lord. Everybody deserves the Gospel of salvation!

Bible study methods

Last Friday, Pastor Jonathan Lim, shared with us during our meeting at New World Park about how to study the Bible in our quiet time. It is by applying the: D. U. A. principal

D - Discover
U - Understand
A - Apply

It basically means, when we read the Bible, we must discover the truth, understand it and then apply it. For example:

Mat 5:14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Mat 5:15 Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men that they may see your [26] moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and [27] recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.

Scripture text taken from Matthew 5:14-16 (Amplified)

What we can discover:
We are the light.
Light shines, reveals, chase away darkness, guide

What we can understand:
We are called to shine God's light as it will reveal all things as it chase away the power of darkness around us and guide us and people around in truth and to the truth that will set us free - Jesus

What we can apply:
As the light, in our daily life, are we shinning God's light or what are we in darkness, needing God's light to reveal to us that we need to walk right with God?

Hope that all will benefit from this sharing

Electronic Bible

For those Christians who don't have a bible, no time to read it, having problems finding verses should try this program: E-sword. You can download it at: www.e-sword.net.
It's free (It's a freeware) and downloading it is free. Distribution of it with profit is illegal so go ahead and download a copy of it. It's user friendly as we can search Bible verses, read the Bible and even read commentaries for better understanding. Stop giving yourself an excuse of having no Bible when you can download 1 for free. Of course 1 Bible cost >RM 30 but hey, this is free so again, no excuse for not reading the Bible. Having problem hunting verses, here is a remedy. This program can hunt verses out in a matter of few seconds. Having trouble understanding and not willing to spend money getting a commentary? Get it free as it comes along with the software. Non-English speaking? No problem, just download the .bbl files of the language version of the Bible. Now God gives us technology to help us understand Him. Use it and share it with others! May you be blessed! And I thank God for the programmers that made this vision of helping people read and understand God's Word a reality. If you're not a Christian and want to know more about Jesus and Christianity, download this program and read it. You'll understand.

KDU Penang upcomming event - Change Your World Tour

Have we ever wonder if we can ever change our world? Have we ever wonder how we can make a difference in our world? There are many voices today that tells us "You can't". So, does it mean that we can never make a change?

Now, in fact, weather we are aware or not, we are making changes everyday. It can be positive or negative. If I buy something today, I am changing something. Somebody actually sold something which they previously had. We use things. Once we use something, it is never the same because it is changed to 2nd hand.

Now how can we change our world. Let's talk about positive changes. Let's look into history. The Wright brothers change the mode of transportation with airplane and change people's mentality that man can never fly. Obama Barrack change the USA mindset that every president must be a white. Esther is known for Purim festival because she did something to spare her people. Mozart change the approach to music. John Wesley and Martin Luther change Christianity concept. Apostle Paul changed the mindsets that Christianity are only for the Jews. Nobel change the world with Nobel peace prize.

Those are people from history that tells us that positive changes can be made by everyone. So how can we change our world? How can our small actions change our society?

We can only change our world if we know where is our world. What is our world? As a student in KDU, my world is revolving around studies, campus life and private life. My college is my world for now.

Ok, now we understand our world, so what do we do next? We should now see the need and meet the need. What are the needs around us? Like our society, poor people are in need. Change our world by eliminating poverty by helping them. Our friends who may be weak in studies, help them in their studies and that will change their world.

How do we identify needs and approach them? Have compasion and resist complecency, have awareness to counter ingnorance and have courage to face problems instead of having fear.

One of the best way to learn is to attend the CYW concert on this coming 22nd November at Dewan Sri Pinang from 6pm - 10pm. The ticket is RM20 but hey, it comes with a free sound track that is worth 29.90 (basically speaking you are getting a discount for the disc plus a pass to the concert!).

Let's not waste time and lets go change our world. Either change our world or our world will change us.

Good things are meant to be shared

Good things are meant to be shared. This is my motto for now... How can we share good things? We can share good things in our words and actions. Good things that can encourage people... are meant to be shared an not to be kept.
If there are things in our life that we think it can help encourage, edify, exhort or even help someone, we should share. Examples of such is the good news known as Gospel. People need it. In our world today, there are many people out there that needs help, that are discouraged, disappointed and weak. If we are friends, and friends are to help each other, we should help in our words. Words are powerful and if we use them correctly, we can actually help people. God's word says in Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. Sometimes it is sad that we choose death over life in our words. I hope and pray that God will use me to encourage all those who are around me. Sad to say also many people loves to listen to the words of death in their life. Death could mean hopelessness (death to our hope) or literal cursing (Example: Die la...). The question is why should we speak death instead of life? I had friends who thinks that words of encouragement is nonsense. God bless that guy! Still sometimes, encouragement may not be helpful to those who often listen to the words of discouragement because they are bound by it. Fear comes by believing what we hear at times. In fact, fear as per Pastor Sylvia Lai means False Evidence Appearing Real. When these false evidence is proclaimed as real, it will produce fear which is contrary to faith. What is faith? Apostle Paul defines faith in Rom 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. It's interesting that hearing God's word helps add faith. As for me, God's Words encourages me and this drives out fear. Interestingly what we hear is what we believe. I believe, Deming's 14 point's point no.8 for quality management is - Drive out fear. If everybody speaks of false evidence appearing real, this creates a mentality and Fear creeps in to bind people. Discouragement comes by negative inputs from others. Example: The you can't video in Quest 1 of Change Your World. If we live in faith, believing that it will work, it CAN, it will drown the words of discouragement and propell us forward. These 2 factors - fear and discouragement, the solution is to add courage known as en-courage. En stands for add.
Good things are meant to be shared in our actions. If we help others like Recess Revolution's Show up, Stand up and Speak up. Actions help and they speak louder than words. If we have good skills, don't waste them, use it to help people in need! Got extra, give to ones in need and they will be blessed and encouraged. Like this Change You World tour, invite people to come and this will help encourage the team as whole. I am encouraged when Mr. Ronald got the principal of KDU to make it a college event and to promote it in the foyer instead of the actual plans of having it at room 404. Now all we need to do is to help support the team with our actions of explaining to interested students at the foyer.
In conclusion, good things are meant to be shared. If we keep it to ourselves, we are not only selfish but doing injustice to those in need.
